Search and rescue operations are ongoing in Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district to locate four individuals still missing after flash floods hit the Poosa area. One person, Nirmala Gupta, has been found deceased, while Elesh Marak, Balari Marak, Tao Anjina, and Sourav Kumar are yet to be located. The calamity caused injuries to around 20 people, with three in critical condition and receiving treatment at a government hospital.
The flash floods, triggered by heavy rainfall, resulted in the collapse of an under-construction retaining wall, leading to waterlogging and damage to residential areas. The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) has initiated preventive measures by releasing water from the Ranganadi Dam, suspending power generation temporarily. Landslides and floods have caused widespread destruction in various districts of the mountainous state.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and damage caused by the floods and landslides in Keyi Panyor District. He assured that rescue, relief, and restoration efforts are underway, with a focus on assisting the affected families. Meanwhile, the Assam government has issued a high alert due to heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, anticipating downstream impacts on several districts of Assam.
