Authorities in Shivamogga found a second body in the Bhadra Canal on the fourth day of the search operation at Arabilichi camp. The tragic incident involved four family members, including two women, who drowned in the canal. The first body was discovered the day before.
Local police, fire services, and expert diving teams initiated the search operation promptly after the family members drowned. The victims were identified as Neela Bai, her son Ravi, her daughter Shwetha, and her son-in-law Parashuram. Neela Bai fell into the canal while washing clothes, leading to the others’ unsuccessful rescue attempts.
Ravi’s body, found in a decomposed state after three days of searching, was laid to rest on Tuesday. Neela Bai’s body was recovered approximately one kilometer from where she fell into the canal. Shivamogga Rural MLA Sharada Pooryanaik visited the site, requesting officials to lower the water flow until all bodies are located.
In a separate incident, two unmarried men drowned in the Kumaradhara River near Kukke Subramanya on January 19. One man slipped into deep water, and the other drowned trying to save him. Previously, on September 7 last year, two college students from Bengaluru drowned in a lake under the Ramanagara Rural police station limits.
On October 8 last year, a tragic family outing in Mandya district resulted in two women drowning and four others, including two children, going missing when the Markonahalli dam gates opened unexpectedly. The family, visiting relatives in Magadipalya village, was swept away by a sudden surge when the crest gates automatically opened.
