Security agencies at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad were put on high alert following the receipt of a bomb threat email. The airport authorities and police took immediate action in response to the threat.
The email, sent from an unidentified email ID under the name Amber Durham, arrived at the airport’s official email address at 11:05 a.m. The message, titled “BOMB Blast luggage Section,” targeted Ahmedabad Airport and made divisive remarks regarding Sikhs and Hindu leaders.
In light of the seriousness of the threat, a formal complaint was lodged at the airport police station, and security measures were intensified throughout the airport premises. An emergency meeting of the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was promptly convened to assess the situation.
Comprehensive security checks were conducted across the airport, including the luggage and terminal areas, as a precautionary measure. The email was classified as a “non-specific” bomb threat after thorough evaluation by the committee, leading to further investigations and legal actions being taken.
Efforts are currently underway to identify the sender of the email with the support of the cybercrime cell. Previously, on January 23, similar hoax emails targeting schools led to security protocols being activated, although no explosives were discovered. These incidents have been referred to the cybercrime branch for further investigation.
