Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh captured an armed NSCN (Khango) extremist and an overground worker in a recent operation. The Assam Rifles, acting on specific intelligence, successfully apprehended Kamnong Pangtha, a Naga militant linked to NSCN (Khango), and Gopang Negimu, an overground worker in Changlang. Both individuals were involved in extortion and recruitment of local youth into insurgent groups, mainly in Changlang and Jairampur areas.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the overground worker was trying to facilitate the defection of NSCN (Khango) cadres to NSCN (Angmai) in the Rima-Putok circle. This move aimed to bolster the NSCN (Angmai) faction’s presence in the region, showcasing internal dynamics among insurgent groups. The apprehended individuals, along with their possessions, were handed over to local authorities for further legal procedures.
In a separate development, joint operations by the Indian Army’s Red Shield Gunners and Assam Police in Upper Assam districts yielded success in apprehending an ULFA (I) cadre, ten overground workers, and four drug dealers with ties to anti-national elements. These intelligence-based operations, supported by technical and human inputs, also led to the recovery of narcotics. The coordinated efforts underscore the efficacy of joint operations in combating anti-national activities and dismantling support networks in the region.
The ongoing actions by the Indian Army and Assam Police are crucial in preventing the recruitment of local youth into anti-national groups and enhancing societal stability in Upper Assam. These sustained efforts emphasize the commitment of security forces to upholding law and order and ensuring community safety in the region.
