Security forces in Manipur have apprehended eight militants, including two prominent leaders from banned groups, seizing a significant cache of arms and ammunition. Among those arrested are Vincent Pumjamang Taithul (40), the self-proclaimed Commander-in-Chief of Zogam Liberation Front (ZLF), and Khumbongmayum Ananda Meitei, also known as Lamphel or Ibomcha (53), an advisor of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). The militants were captured in various districts like Churachandpur, Imphal West, Kakching, and Imphal East, with the recovery of sophisticated weapons, ammunition, incriminating documents, and mobile phones from their possession.
Four individuals linked to the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) were also detained in the Lamlai police station areas of Imphal East district. Additionally, security forces rescued three young individuals who were coerced and held by the arrested PLA/RPF members for potential recruitment into the outlawed organization. Extensive intelligence-driven combing operations are ongoing in different districts to apprehend individuals engaged in illegal activities like kidnapping and extortion in Manipur.
To combat unlawful elements and suspicious activities, security forces have established 114 checkpoints across Manipur, both in valley and hill districts. Escort services are being provided to vehicles, particularly trucks transporting essential goods, along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37). Stringent security measures, including convoy protection, are being enforced in sensitive areas to ensure the safe movement of vehicles. The Manipur Police have cautioned the public against believing and sharing fake news on social media, urging verification of information through the Central Control Room to avoid legal repercussions.
