Joint security forces uncovered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), weapons, and ammunition in the forests of Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir. Acting on intelligence inputs, a coordinated operation named Operation Gani was conducted in the Gani forest area of Poonch, leading to the discovery of weapons hidden in a cave. The recovery included a 4.5 kg IED, an 800 gm IED, two Chinese grenades, a 9 mm pistol, and various rounds of ammunition.
The Bomb Disposal Team safely destroyed the IEDs and grenades on-site to protect civilians and troops. The security forces emphasized precision and coordination in the operation, ensuring the safety of the area. Following the recovery, a case was registered at the Mendhar Police Station in connection with the incident.
The security forces recently eliminated three Pakistan-supported terrorists in the forest area of Kishtwar district under Operation TRASHI-I. While the J&K Police and other security units focus on anti-terrorist operations inland, the Army and Border Security Force (BSF) secure the Line of Control (LoC) and international border (IB) respectively. Jammu and Kashmir’s LoC spans 740 km and the IB extends 240 km, with the Army and BSF actively monitoring for cross-border infiltration, smuggling, and unlawful activities.
In addition to counter-terrorism efforts, security forces target drug smugglers, peddlers, and individuals involved in illicit financial activities. It is believed that proceeds from these illegal activities fund terrorism in the region, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by security agencies in maintaining peace and stability.
