A violent clash in Manipur’s Ukhrul district left three people dead and several others injured. Security forces are now increasing operations to apprehend those responsible and prevent further violence. The area’s security measures have been significantly boosted to avoid any escalation.
Ukhrul district, predominantly inhabited by the Tangkhul Naga community, witnessed heavy gunfire in the Mullam village area. The clash resulted in the deaths of three individuals, identified as Paominlun Haolai, Letlal Sitlhou, and Horshokmi Jamang. The deceased belonged to different communities and districts, with many houses burnt down during the incident.
Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen strongly condemned the violence, emphasizing the need for unity against such acts. She expressed solidarity with the victims and urged communities to prioritize peace. Meanwhile, the Thadou Inpi Manipur urged all parties to avoid targeting the Thadou community and advised neutrality to prevent misidentification.
Security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Chandel district, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order. Additionally, a successful rescue operation by the Assam Rifles in Churachandpur district highlighted the coordination between security forces and local authorities in ensuring public safety. The operation aimed to protect a 55-year-old individual whose safety was threatened by a viral video.
