Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district successfully intercepted an arm/ammunition consignment dropped by a Pakistani drone near the international border. The recovery was a result of routine surveillance and area domination efforts in the forward belt close to the border. The consignment, including two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition, and one grenade, was believed to be intended for disruptive activities in the region.
The timely detection and recovery of these arms prevented a potential security threat in the area. The use of drones for smuggling weapons across the border has become a recurring challenge for security forces in J&K. Authorities have initiated a case and launched an investigation to track down the intended recipients and determine the drone’s route and launch point.
Security measures have been heightened in the border area to counter such infiltration attempts. Ground patrolling and technical monitoring are crucial in thwarting drone-based smuggling activities. Jammu and Kashmir’s Line of Control (LoC) spans 740 km across various districts, while the 240 km-long International Border in Samba, Kathua, and Jammu districts is guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF).
