The security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district successfully prevented a major Maoist attempt to target personnel and vehicles by discovering and neutralizing two powerful improvised explosive devices. A joint team, including the District Reserve Guard of Bijapur, Ilmidi police station personnel, Chhattisgarh Armed Force 9th Battalion members, and the Bomb Disposal Squad, conducted a search operation in the Ilmidi-Lankapalli area. The operation revealed two IEDs planted by Maoists on an unpaved road in Village Lankapalli, each weighing between 20 and 30 kilograms and equipped with a command switch system.
The Bomb Disposal Squad acted swiftly, following safety protocols to destroy the explosives on-site, averting potential harm and eliminating the immediate threat posed by the hidden bombs. The recovery of these IEDs highlights the ongoing vigilance required in the Bastar division, where Maoist groups persist in using such tactics to disrupt security operations and create fear among local communities. Recent incidents in the area have included civilian injuries from similar devices in nearby forests, prompting intensified counter-insurgency efforts by security forces.
Authorities praised the joint team’s alertness, quick decision-making, and coordinated response, which effectively thwarted the insurgents’ plan. Search operations and area domination activities continue in the vicinity to maintain peace, prevent further placement of explosives, and ensure the safety of residents and security personnel traveling through remote routes. This successful intervention underscores Chhattisgarh’s commitment to proactively counter Maoist threats, safeguard lives, and uphold stability in one of the state’s most affected districts.
