Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh successfully prevented a major terror incident by apprehending an NSCN-IM militant and seizing a cache of weapons and ammunition in Longding district. The joint operation involved the Assam Rifles, Special Task Force, and Longding police, acting on specific intelligence inputs.
The arrested militant, identified as ‘captain’ Ponglem Wangpan, a member of the Isak-Muivah faction of NSCN, was leading a group planning nefarious activities in the region. The operation, carried out near Zedua village, resulted in the recovery of firearms including an INSAS rifle, a pistol, and various types of ammunition.
Further investigations are ongoing, with an FIR filed at the Longding police station. Security forces are conducting extensive search operations in suspected areas to locate any remaining militants and prevent potential threats to the region.
In a separate incident in Namsai district, Arunachal Pradesh Police seized a significant amount of suspected heroin and arrested a woman in connection with drug trafficking. This action underscores the authorities’ commitment to combating drug-related crimes and maintaining a drug-free environment in the state.
