In a significant win against Left-Wing Extremism, security forces have discovered a major illegal dump hidden by Maoists in the dense forests of Karregutta Hills, under Usur police station in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. The operation, carried out by joint teams from the District Force, elite COBRA-204 battalion, and CRPF-196, led to the retrieval of crucial weapons repair equipment, materials for making Barrel Grenade Launchers (BGLs), and explosives buried underground.
The search focused on the Doligutta peak area and the FOB Tadpala Valley forests, recognized Maoist hideouts. During the operation, security forces found and safely disposed of two pressure-activated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by the insurgents, with the help of the COBRA-204 Bomb Disposal and Detection (BDD) team. This proactive action averted potential ambushes on security personnel patrolling the volatile region, according to police officials.
Among the confiscated items were a hand fly press machine crucial for producing weapon parts, a significant amount of BGL cells in various sizes, BGL tails, steel plates, screwdrivers, hacksaw blades, pliers, and other heavy tools used for repairing and assembling firearms. The recovery of such materials underscores the Maoists’ persistent efforts to sustain their armed activities through covert manufacturing units in remote hills, as per officials.
Describing the recovery as a “major setback” to Maoist operations, officials stated that it thwarted the insurgents’ plot to regroup and launch attacks amidst the ongoing anti-Naxal campaigns in the Bastar division. The vigilance and coordinated efforts of the forces have enhanced security in this critical border area shared with Telangana. This success forms part of intensified operations in Chhattisgarh, where security forces are actively dismantling Maoist infrastructure.
The search operation is ongoing, with authorities urging remaining insurgents to surrender and integrate into mainstream society for peace and development. The region has witnessed increased anti-Maoist activities this year, emphasizing the government’s dedication to eliminating extremism and restoring normalcy.
