The M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bengaluru is heavily guarded ahead of the IPL inaugural match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Following last year’s stampede tragedy during RCB’s victory celebrations, stringent safety measures have been put in place with 2,000 police personnel deployed in and around the stadium. Authorities are prioritizing safety to prevent any untoward incidents.
In response to the previous tragedy that tarnished Bengaluru’s reputation, the Karnataka government, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and RCB management are ensuring top-notch security arrangements. This marks the first tournament at Chinnaswamy Stadium since the unfortunate incident, prompting the deployment of 2,000 police officers, including seven special squads, to oversee security.
Bengaluru City Joint Commissioner of Police (West Division), Vamshi Krishna, is supervising the security operations, with police personnel strategically positioned since Saturday afternoon. Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh has urged cricket fans to enjoy responsibly, emphasizing adherence to guidelines for a safe and enjoyable experience. Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh conducted a security review meeting to assess preparedness, focusing on traffic management, parking, and fan safety within the stadium.
