A seminar in Gandhinagar has set forth a plan to enhance Gujarat’s status as a competitive medical technology manufacturing hub on a global scale. The event, named ‘Gujarat to Global: Empowering the MedTech Ecosystem,’ was a collaborative effort by GRIT, EPCMD, and NIPER Ahmedabad. The focus was on boosting export-oriented production, regulatory preparedness, and ecosystem development.
Government officials, regulators, and industry leaders gathered to discuss Gujarat’s aspiration to lead as India’s prime medical technology hub. The seminar, led by GRIT’s CEO S. Aparna, highlighted the roadmap for “Viksit Gujarat 2030” and Gujarat’s pivotal role in India’s MedTech ambitions. Gujarat aims to evolve into a highly competitive medical technology hub with global manufacturing capabilities.
The discussions at the seminar delved into the evolving global landscape of medical devices, stressing the shift from traditional assembly operations to high-value, export-oriented manufacturing in Gujarat. Emphasis was also placed on aligning industrial growth with the National Medical Devices Policy and India’s broader MedTech vision. Technical sessions focused on regulatory pathways and quality systems essential for international market access.
Experts shared insights on approval routes like 510(k), De Novo, PMA, EU MDR, and EU IVDR, as well as international quality standards such as ISO 13485, FDA QMSR, and MDSAP. Dr. Tamanna Chaturvedi presented on leveraging Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) to enhance export opportunities in the medical devices sector. The event concluded with discussions on building a comprehensive ecosystem around Gujarat’s Medical Device Park, covering infrastructure, testing labs, sterilization facilities, and skill development.
The seminar highlighted Gujarat’s potential to emerge as a top global center for medical device manufacturing, attracting significant investments and boosting exports.
