After facing internal party conflicts, Dilip Ghosh, a senior BJP leader, has been nominated to run from his favored Kharagpur Sadar constituency in West Midnapore district for the upcoming Assembly elections. Ghosh, expressing confidence during a media interaction, set a target of securing 1,00,000 votes while also directing criticism towards the Trinamool Congress.
During his campaign, Ghosh emphasized the support he believes he has from the people of Kharagpur, downplaying the significance of his opponents. He highlighted the BJP’s past victories in the region, stating that their main competition is with the TMC itself rather than individual candidates. Ghosh aims to address the historically low voter turnout in Kharagpur by striving to secure 100,000 votes this time.
Taking a swipe at the Trinamool Congress, Ghosh criticized Mamata Banerjee’s decision to drop 74 sitting MLAs from the candidate list, suggesting a state of disarray within the party. He questioned Banerjee’s ability to identify the real adversaries, implying a need for change. In response, Trinamool leader Jayprakash Majumdar issued a rebuttal to Ghosh’s comments, reflecting the escalating political tensions in West Bengal.
Dilip Ghosh, a key figure in the BJP’s growth in West Bengal, faced a period of estrangement from the party due to internal conflicts. Despite winning the Kharagpur Sadar seat in 2016 and later contesting and losing in different constituencies, Ghosh found himself marginalized within the party. However, ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, efforts were made to reconcile, leading to Ghosh’s reinstatement as a candidate for Kharagpur Sadar constituency.
