Senior Congress leader Shanimol Usman has lodged a complaint with the Kerala Police against a social media group administrator for circulating false and defamatory information. Usman clarified that claims of her intending to join the CPI-M are baseless and politically motivated.
Addressing reporters, Usman emphasized her commitment to the Congress, stating that she has been a Congress worker since her days in student politics. She expressed intent to take legal action against those responsible for spreading misinformation about her political allegiance.
Usman highlighted that the dissemination of such false reports has harmed her political reputation and caused confusion among party members and the public. She stressed that involving the police was necessary to halt the spread of misinformation and hold individuals spreading false narratives accountable.
The 59-year-old leader, who won the Aroor Assembly by-election in 2019 but lost in the 2021 elections, is the first woman from Kerala to serve as a secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC). The complaint comes amidst political turbulence in the state following recent high-profile party defections.
