Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh commented on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) win in West Bengal, emphasizing the importance of respecting the people’s mandate in a democracy. He acknowledged the election results and highlighted the Congress’ satisfaction with securing two seats in a state where they previously had no representation.
Singh called for stronger unity among opposition parties in the current political scenario, urging all “anti-BJP parties” to unite on a common platform. He cautioned regional parties, including the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee, that standing alone might not be enough to challenge the BJP’s dominance and could lead to political marginalization.
In response to criticisms of Congress’ electoral performance, Singh pointed to the party’s success in Kerala, where he claimed they have significantly weakened the opposition. Shifting focus to Bihar, he raised concerns about the upcoming Cabinet expansion and emphasized the need for competent ministers who prioritize public expectations and address the state’s deteriorating law and order situation.
Singh also highlighted issues of infrastructure failures in Bihar, particularly referencing the repeated bridge collapses and alleged corruption in awarding contracts to the same contractors. He called for a thorough investigation into corruption in infrastructure projects, stressing the importance of accountability, strict actions against wrongdoings, and ensuring quality in public works for genuine development in Bihar.
