Senior Congress leader Jitendra Singh Alwar resigned as the party’s General Secretary in-charge of Assam following the BJP’s significant victory in the Assembly elections. In a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Singh accepted responsibility for the party’s unsatisfactory performance, deeming the election outcome disappointing.
Singh expressed his gratitude to the party leadership for the opportunity and thanked the people of Assam, along with party workers and leaders, for their support. Despite the party’s efforts, he acknowledged the failure to meet the expectations of the Assamese people, prompting his immediate resignation.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the Congress, Singh pledged to continue backing the party’s ideology and organizational endeavors in any future role assigned to him. The BJP’s landslide win in the Assam Assembly elections, securing 82 out of 126 seats, has positioned them for a third consecutive term in power.
