Senior Congress leaders criticized the Pinarayi Vijayan government in Kerala for dismissing allegations of medical negligence as “isolated cases.” The criticism followed a visit by a Congress General Secretary to a constituent undergoing treatment in a private hospital after a pair of scissors left inside her abdomen during surgery in 2021 was recently removed.
The Congress leader expressed skepticism towards inquiry committees formed in response to medical negligence incidents, suggesting they often serve to cover up mistakes rather than ensure accountability. He questioned the lack of action taken against those responsible for negligence, emphasizing the need to hold them accountable instead of blaming the victims.
The leaders highlighted the failure of the health system in Kerala to prevent recurring lapses, emphasizing the need for the government to acknowledge mismanagement and implement corrective measures. They stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and systemic improvements to restore public confidence in the state’s health infrastructure.
