The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a senior official from the West Central Railway for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a contractor. The official, identified as Narayan Singh Bundela, is accused of demanding the bribe in exchange for processing payments and releasing dues related to contract work.
A case was registered by the CBI on June 4 following a complaint that Bundela sought an undue advantage of Rs 1 lakh for facilitating the release of a security deposit and clearing pending bills amounting to around Rs 1 crore.
The CBI conducted a trap operation and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar. The agency also conducted searches at locations associated with the official, leading to the recovery of unaccounted cash and documents related to real estate investments.
The arrested official was taken into custody and presented before the court in Jabalpur on Friday.
