A Seoul city councilor and a former aide to ex-lawmaker Kang Sun-woo faced police questioning for the third time regarding bribery allegations linked to the 2022 local elections. The councilor, Kim Kyoung, and the aide, known as Nam, appeared at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency for interrogation. Nam, who previously worked for Representative Kang of the Democratic Party, is accused of accepting 100 million won from Kim in exchange for a nomination.
In the initial police inquiry, Nam admitted meeting Kim with Kang but denied receiving cash, claiming he was not present during the alleged money transfer. Nam mentioned moving an “item” into Kang’s car trunk without knowing it contained cash. Kim reportedly stated to the police that she personally handed the money to Kang at a cafe before the elections, with Nam setting the amount at 100 million won and being present during the exchange.
On the other hand, Kang stated that she learned about her aide’s acceptance of cash later and instructed him to return it. Kang, who resigned from the Democratic Party following the allegations, is under investigation for allegedly receiving 100 million won from a Seoul councilor. The police initiated the investigation after opposition lawmakers lodged a bribery complaint against Kang and the council member.
