An overpass in Seoul collapsed during removal work, resulting in three deaths and three injuries. The incident occurred at the Seosomun Overpass in western Seoul, where construction debris fell to the ground, causing fatalities among workers in their 50s and 60s. The surviving injured workers, aged in their 30s, 40s, and 50s, sustained various injuries to the waist, head, and ribs.
Thirteen individuals were in the vicinity during the collapse, with seven managing to evacuate safely. The accident happened as workers were conducting a safety inspection between the girders, leading to their collapse. The debris also affected a nearby railway, prompting the suspension of rail operations between Seoul Station and Sinchon Station.
Following the incident, President Lee Jae Myung called for a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse and urged measures to prevent similar accidents in the future. Prime Minister Kim Min-seok directed the mobilization of resources for rescue operations and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of rescue workers and minimizing further casualties.
