Serena Williams expressed her joy at seeing her close friend Grigor Dimitrov return to Wimbledon after a challenging year. The tennis star referred to Dimitrov as her “guy bestie” and shared that it was hard for her to witness his emotional exit from last year’s Championships.
Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, reunited with Dimitrov at the All England Club, where they warmly embraced ahead of the tournament. Speaking at a pre-tournament press conference, Williams highlighted their strong friendship, calling Dimitrov her best friend and reminiscing about their shared memories.
Dimitrov, who faced a tough year due to injuries, is making a comeback at Wimbledon after a series of setbacks. Last year, he had to retire from a match against Jannik Sinner due to a pectoral injury, which left him visibly emotional. Despite subsequent challenges, Dimitrov has shown promise on grass courts this season, winning matches in Dublin and Mallorca.
Williams, set to begin her Wimbledon journey against Maya Joint, expressed her happiness at Dimitrov’s return to health and competitive play. She acknowledged the difficulties Dimitrov faced and emphasized the importance of perseverance in the face of setbacks.
