Seven commuters lost their lives, and two others were injured in a tragic road accident in northern Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province. The incident occurred in the Maimay district of the mountainous Darwaz region early in the morning. Last week, a bus overturned in the Salang area of Baghlan province, resulting in five fatalities and 44 injuries. Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Works spokesperson, Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, revealed that the bus accident in the Shawal area, north of Salang, was caused by reckless driving, leading to the deaths of five individuals and injuries to 44 others.
Authorities have urged travelers on the route to adhere to official instructions and traffic regulations. Snow-clearing operations are underway at various points along the Salang highway. Additionally, recent reports from local police indicate that three individuals were killed and 16 others injured in separate traffic accidents in Afghanistan within a 24-hour period. Two people lost their lives in a head-on collision on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in Ghazni province, while two women sustained injuries. In Jawzjan province, another traffic incident claimed one life and left 14 individuals injured. The accidents have been linked to reckless driving and the hazardous conditions of overcrowded and poorly maintained roads in Afghanistan.
