Seven militants, including two senior leaders of outlawed groups, were apprehended by security forces in Manipur. Arms and ammunition were seized during the operations. In a separate development, a protest march in Imphal demanded justice for six Naga civilians who were reportedly abducted and later found dead.
Hundreds of protesters, including women and youths, participated in the peaceful rally organized by the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM). The march covered a distance of about 4 kilometers in Imphal West district. ANSAM President Angteshang Maring expressed the public’s outrage over the killings and emphasized the call for justice.
Political leaders and civil society groups in the Northeast have strongly condemned the killings of the six civilians. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, along with other leaders, denounced the incident. The cases have been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a detailed probe. Security forces also arrested militants from various insurgent outfits in separate operations.
Among those arrested were individuals from groups like the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Notably, self-styled KCP captain Wangkhem Premjit Singh and RPF/PLA’s Director-in-Charge of Intelligence Sarangthem Jayenta Meetei were apprehended. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the militants during the arrests. Security forces are conducting extensive crackdowns to maintain law and order in Manipur.
To enhance security, checkpoints have been set up across the state. Security forces are monitoring movements and conducting search operations to prevent militant activities. Escorts are being provided to vehicles, including essential commodity trucks, along key supply routes. Strict security measures are in place to ensure safe transportation. Manipur Police have urged the public to stay vigilant against misinformation and cooperate with authorities for peace and stability.
