Seventh seed Felix Auger-Aliassime retired due to cramp during his Australian Open first-round match, conceding a victory to Portugal’s Nuno Borges. Auger-Aliassime, a US Open semifinalist, struggled with discomfort in his leg, leading to his withdrawal after the third set.

On a different note, Australian player Alex de Minaur swiftly secured a 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 win over Mackenzie McDonald, advancing to the second round. De Minaur, ranked sixth globally, will face Hamad Medjedovic in the next round.

In the women’s singles event, Jessica Pegula dominated Anastasia Zakharova with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in just 66 minutes at the Australian Open. Pegula’s strong performance earned her a spot in the second round, where she will compete against McCartney Kessler.
