After days of scorching heat, Katihar experienced a sudden and powerful storm with heavy rainfall on Sunday, bringing relief from the high temperatures. Unfortunately, the storm also resulted in three fatalities due to lightning strikes in different locations.
The deceased individuals were identified as Md. Abbas (65) from Shitalmani Panchayat, Manglesh Kumar (27) from Chandwa Panchayat, and Akmal Hussain (45) from Islampur Sukhasan village.
Md. Abbas was struck by lightning while retrieving his livestock in Korobari village, leading to his demise.
In a separate incident, Manglesh Kumar lost his life in Khudna village during the storm, leaving his family devastated. His wife, Dolly Devi, and their four children are in deep sorrow, affecting the entire village.
Similarly, Akmal Hussain was fatally struck by lightning while working in his field after harvesting maize in Islampur Sukhasan village.
Authorities have responded by offering support to the affected families and advising residents to be cautious during adverse weather conditions, particularly thunderstorms and lightning.
Teams from the district administration and police have visited the affected areas to provide assistance. The bodies have been recovered and sent for post-mortem at Sadar Hospital, Katihar. Compensation for the families of the deceased is being arranged following government guidelines.
The tragic incidents have brought mourning to the affected villages, even as the rainfall has brought relief from the prevailing heatwave in the region.
