The weather in Bihar suddenly turned severe, leading to widespread disruption and damage in various districts. Five individuals lost their lives due to adverse weather conditions in the state within the last 24 hours. Among the casualties, two deaths each were reported in Patna and Bettiah, and one in Begusarai.
In Patna, two people died when a part of a sixth-floor under-construction building collapsed, resulting in fatal injuries. The victims, Tribhuvan Prasad Sinha (73) and Anita Devi (48), were passing by the area when debris fell on them. Despite immediate efforts by locals to rescue them and transport them to a hospital, both succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
In Jehanabad, four individuals sustained injuries after a house structure partially collapsed due to strong winds and heavy rainfall. Additionally, in Buxar, six passengers in an e-rickshaw were injured when a tree fell on the vehicle. The adverse weather also caused disruptions in Bhojpur, where strong winds damaged a pontoon bridge at Mahuli, impacting local connectivity.
The India Meteorological Department had previously warned about challenging weather conditions, which materialized with storms and heavy rainfall affecting Bihar, including the capital city of Patna. The severe weather, characterized by strong winds, heavy rain, and lightning strikes, caused significant destruction within a short period, affecting multiple areas and leading to infrastructure and property damage.
Wedding tents were blown away, electric poles uprooted, and trees collapsed, obstructing roads and normal movement. Nearly 20 districts experienced severe impacts, distressing residents and disrupting daily life. The Meteorological Department issued fresh alerts for the upcoming days, with expectations of temperature fluctuations and adverse weather conditions persisting.
