Severe weather conditions in Chhattisgarh have led to the deaths of 21 cattle in two separate lightning strike incidents. The incidents occurred in Pondum village in the Bijapur district and Rajmergarh village in the Gorela Pendra Marwahi district. The sudden atmospheric shift brought heavy thunderstorms and torrential rain, causing economic distress to local livestock farmers.
In Pondum village, ten cattle died instantly when lightning struck the open ground where they were grazing. This loss has deeply affected the rural community as livestock is crucial for local farmers’ savings and food security. Similarly, in Rajmergarh village, eleven cattle perished due to a lightning strike while returning home from grazing in the forest. The loss has triggered a financial crisis for the Yadav family, who rely on livestock for their livelihood.
Local villagers rushed to assist the affected families, and administrative teams have been deployed to assess the situation and provide support. The Meteorological Department forecasts continued rain and cloud cover in Chhattisgarh until Monday, with a potential rise in temperatures leading to heatwaves later in May. The Southwest Monsoon’s progress shows positive signs, with active weather systems in the Bay of Bengal.
