In a fiery speech during the Nationalist Congress Party’s 27th Foundation Day, Sharad Pawar criticized the NDA-led Union government on various issues. He warned of state-wide protests if public concerns are ignored, highlighting internal leadership conflicts, historical misrepresentations, agrarian challenges, and foreign policy shifts. Pawar, leading the NCP-SP since a split in July 2023, emphasized the need for his party to take a strong stance.
Pawar directly challenged the narrative comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Jawaharlal Nehru, asserting their distinct places in history. While acknowledging Modi’s significance, Pawar stressed Nehru’s pre-PM contributions during the freedom struggle. He called for respecting the Prime Minister’s Office while critiquing policies without disrespecting the position itself.
Addressing comparisons between Modi and Nehru based on tenure, Pawar dismissed such simplistic evaluations. He also commented on the lavish Foundation Day advertisements by the NCP-led Ajit Pawar faction, joking about the expenses but appreciating the party’s support. Pawar criticized Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan for inappropriate remarks on ‘Operation Blue Star’ and warned against distorting history for political gains.
Expressing concerns over rural distress in Maharashtra, Pawar highlighted farmers’ hardships, including sleeping outside shops due to fertilizer shortages. He condemned the government’s neglect of the agricultural sector, citing a rise in farmer suicides. Pawar issued an ultimatum to the Maharashtra administration, threatening protests if demands are not met. He also discussed global affairs, criticizing the government’s foreign policy shifts amid international conflicts.
