Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar called for revisions in the government’s Rs 36,585 crore loan waiver program to ensure farmers receive actual benefits. Speaking in Baramati, Pawar emphasized the importance of dialogue over outright rejection of government policies. He highlighted the need for unity among stakeholders, noting the absence of major elections in the next three years.
Pawar expressed concerns about the complexities of the loan waiver scheme, citing conditions that create obstacles. He stressed the significance of constructive dialogue in addressing disagreements within a democracy. Pawar urged the Chief Minister to collaborate with Central authorities to address these issues and ensure farmers benefit from the scheme.
The Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar farm loan waiver initiative is set to assist 55.72 lakh farmers in the state and clear land records for around 16.74 lakh farmers. However, strict conditions imposed by the state government include exclusion criteria for certain individuals. These exclusions encompass current or former government officials, employees with high salaries, and individuals with non-agricultural income.
Expressing worry over agricultural challenges, Pawar disclosed findings from experts assessing crop damages. He mentioned significant harm to banana and sugarcane crops, with recommendations from the Vasantdada Sugar Institute experts. Pawar also discussed the ongoing INDIA bloc meeting in New Delhi, focusing on strategic discussions and maintaining unity among coalition members.
