Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of former President Pranab Mukherjee, has expressed disapproval of Rahul Gandhi’s intermittent presence in politics, highlighting the need for consistent commitment in the field. She noted a trend of electoral setbacks for the Congress party since 2014, coinciding with Rahul’s prominent role within the party.
Mukherjee refrained from making predictions about the Congress party’s performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. She mentioned that in a previous election, Rahul Gandhi’s efforts in the Bharat Jodo Yatra yielded positive outcomes. However, she criticized his tendency to engage briefly in events before withdrawing, emphasizing the demanding nature of politics as a year-round endeavor.
According to Mukherjee, the Congress party’s reliance on alliances rather than focusing on internal organizational strength has contributed to its electoral struggles. She attributed these challenges to Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, suggesting that his failure to secure significant electoral victories reflects a broader organizational weakness within the party.
Mukherjee highlighted the contrast between Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and the electoral success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom she described as a popular mass leader with a strong mandate. She suggested that Rahul Gandhi’s inability to replicate this success for the Congress party represents a personal failure on his part.
