With the UDF showing a strong lead in Kerala, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor lauded the win as historic, surpassing expectations. Tharoor highlighted the significant shift as the Left, led by CPI-M, lost ground for the first time in decades. He emphasized the national impact, suggesting a potential turning point for Left parties in India.
Tharoor expressed optimism for the Opposition’s future, focusing on governance and reform in Kerala. While refraining from commenting on other states, he stressed the UDF’s genuine political momentum. Tharoor deferred the decision on the UDF’s chief ministerial candidate to the party leadership, urging a swift response to honor the people’s mandate.
Attributing the victory to various factors, Congress MP K. C. Venugopal cited anti-incumbency, proactive campaigning, collective leadership, and Rahul Gandhi’s voter engagement. Congress leader Sachin Pilot also expressed confidence in the outcome, signaling a desire for change after a decade of Left rule in Kerala.
