Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, should be permitted to address Parliament. Tharoor emphasized that objections to Gandhi’s comments during the President’s Address have escalated into a significant parliamentary concern. Tharoor defended Gandhi, stating that he was referencing information already in the public domain.
Tharoor disclosed that he sustained a hairline fracture after a fall outside Parliament premises. Despite the injury, he affirmed his commitment to attending Parliament and fulfilling his official responsibilities. Tharoor mentioned that he would participate in committee meetings, albeit in a wheelchair due to the injury.
Additionally, Tharoor apologized for missing internal party discussions, citing medical tests as the reason for his absence. He expressed regret for not being present during the party meeting and explained that he was undergoing medical examinations at the clinic and hospital during that time.
The ongoing opposition protests in Parliament, particularly concerning issues related to the President’s Address, have sparked criticism from the Congress. The party has accused the government of restricting the opposition’s right to speak in the House.
