Famed author and senior Congress MP, Shashi Tharoor, sparked political discussions with a social media post following his meeting with Kerala Chief Minister, V.D. Satheesan in New Delhi. Tharoor described the hour-long conversation as wonderful, focusing on Kerala’s development roadmap and his commitment to supporting a transformed Keralam.
The post quickly gained attention in Congress circles, coinciding with Satheesan’s initial official visit to Delhi as Chief Minister. During this visit, Satheesan engaged with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union ministers to seek backing for Kerala’s development initiatives and financial recovery efforts.
Tharoor mentioned that he and Chief Minister Satheesan extensively deliberated on the state’s development path and that Satheesan sought his policy insights and aid in various sectors, to which Tharoor readily agreed. Notably, Tharoor added a personal touch by gifting Satheesan his latest book on Sree Narayana Guru, emphasizing the value of books over bouquets.
Political analysts highlight Tharoor’s unique position within the Congress, both in Kerala and Delhi. Despite being a four-time Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram, his cosmopolitan image and independent style have sometimes distanced him from traditional power circles in Kerala. Over time, Tharoor’s rapport with the party leadership has improved, enhancing his political standing significantly.
Tharoor’s public support for Satheesan and the warm exchange from Delhi have introduced a new political dynamic to the evolving relationships within the Congress in Kerala.
