Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, a prominent figure in the National Conference (NC) and the younger brother of NC President Farooq Abdullah, has died in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, after battling a long illness. He passed away at Paras super speciality hospital in Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon.
Born to the renowned Kashmiri leader Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Sheikh Mustafa Kamal was also the uncle of the current Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He obtained his MBBS degree from the Sawai Mansingh (SMS) Medical College in Jaipur in 1962.
Throughout his career, Sheikh Mustafa Kamal served as a Minister in various state Cabinets from 1983 to 1996. He was a respected member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Council, dedicating several years to public service. Known for his humble demeanor, he was deeply committed to serving the people and the party.
Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, aged 83 and younger than Farooq Abdullah, lived a simple life in the Shadimarg forest area near Tangmarg. He was unmarried and devoted his life to assisting the residents of his area, often accompanying them to government offices and arranging medical appointments for those in need. His funeral is expected to take place at the family graveyard in Soura, Srinagar.
The news of Sheikh Mustafa Kamal’s demise has saddened thousands in Jammu and Kashmir, who have expressed condolences to Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah during this difficult time.
