Hundreds of Shia Muslim mourners in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, participated in the Muharram procession with black flags adorning the streets. The procession, starting from Guru Bazar and ending in Dalgate, saw people dressed in black paying tribute to Imam Hussain. Volunteers offered refreshments while medical camps were set up for healthcare needs along the route.
Mourners, clad in black, expressed their grief by reciting elegies for the Martyrs of Karbala. The procession, marked by discipline, passed through various areas before reaching Dalgate. Traffic officials ensured smooth movement by regulating routes and providing special parking arrangements beyond the designated path.
Authorities, including senior civil and police officials, oversaw the procession, which has been permitted in recent years due to improved conditions. The historical significance of Imam Hussain’s martyrdom at Karbala was remembered during the procession, emphasizing the battle’s impact on both Shia and Sunni Muslims.
