Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, an Arjuna awardee, has been chosen as the brand ambassador for the first-ever Delhi Khel Mahakumbh, organized by the Directorate of Education and Sports, Government of NCT of Delhi. The event aims to boost grassroots sports involvement and identify talent in the capital.
Scheduled to commence on February 13 at 16 venues in Delhi, the inaugural Delhi Khel Mahakumbh will witness the participation of numerous young athletes from all 12 districts of Delhi in sports like basketball, football, athletics, kabaddi, wrestling, squash, and volleyball. This initiative serves as a significant multi-sport platform uniting school and community-level athletes, providing them with structured opportunities to showcase their skills and explore professional sporting avenues.
The Delhi Khel Mahakumbh signifies the Delhi government’s dedication to promoting sports as a crucial element of youth development and education. Ashish Sood, the Minister of Education and Sports, Government of Delhi, emphasized that this event is pivotal for talent and sports advancement. Shikhar Dhawan’s involvement as the Brand Ambassador adds credibility and motivation to the initiative, aligning well with the goal of nurturing grassroots talent, fostering broad participation, and identifying future sports stars.
