The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab received a significant boost as Punjab BJP Vice-President and two-time legislator Arvind Khanna, along with BJP office bearers, including the district president, joined the party. Party President Sukhbir Badal welcomed Khanna into the Akali Dal, expressing confidence that a political shift was underway in Punjab. Khanna was appointed as the ‘halka’ in-charge of the Sangrur constituency by Badal.
Khanna, a senior leader with a two-decade history of serving the people of Sangrur, has been actively involved in various social initiatives through the Umeed Foundation. Badal praised Khanna as a leader dedicated to selfless service and community welfare. Khanna, in turn, described his return to the Akali Dal as a homecoming, highlighting the developmental work undertaken during the Akali governments and the need to revive that progress.
During the event, Khanna reminisced about his political beginnings with the Akali Dal and emphasized his admiration for Sukhbir Badal’s altruistic efforts during the Punjab floods. The Akali Dal President also welcomed several other BJP leaders into the party, signaling a broader political realignment in the region. Badal urged the public to support the SAD, positioning it as a party that truly reflects the aspirations of the people and vowing to combat the rise of gangsterism in Punjab.
