Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia accused the Punjab Police of disobeying court directives and succumbing to political pressure during his visit to a police station regarding a case involving party worker Jobanpreet Singh. Majithia stated that despite informing the authorities beforehand and complying with court orders, he was denied entry along with his lawyers for several hours, creating a tense situation at the Majitha police station. He emphasized that only his legal representatives were present, with no party members or supporters accompanying him.
His legal team raised concerns about the police’s actions, questioning the closure of station gates and the obstruction of lawyers from accompanying Majithia. They criticized the police for allegedly disregarding legal protocols and restricting access to legal counsel. Following prolonged delays and objections, Majithia eventually entered the police station unaccompanied to participate in the investigation, with his legal team expressing fears of potential unlawful actions by the police in his absence.
Majithia, addressing the media before the investigation, asserted that the government and Chief Minister mistakenly believed they could silence him through police intervention. He affirmed his resistance to government pressures, stating his unwavering stance against intimidation and coercion. Majithia further accused the police, under what he referred to as a “temporary DGP,” of openly flouting court orders, warning against Punjab’s transformation into a “police state” and alleging political motives behind investigative actions by the government.
