Launching a scathing attack on its former ally, Shiv Sena criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party’s efforts to promote Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the architect of ‘Akhand Hindustan’. In an editorial in ‘Saamana’, the Thackeray camp questioned the rationale behind spending government funds to highlight Mookerjee’s legacy on his 125th birth anniversary.
The editorial labeled the ruling party’s version of Hindutva and nationalism as a “strange concoction” devoid of purity. It criticized the Prime Minister and other leaders for their tributes to Mookerjee, calling it hypocritical to honor someone with conflicting views on India’s freedom struggle.
Shiv Sena linked Mookerjee’s followers to alleged corruption within the Ram Mandir Trust, accusing them of orchestrating a major scam. The editorial also criticized recent leadership changes within the trust, suggesting a structural flaw within the BJP.
The editorial further accused the ruling party of using state power to divide regional pro-Hindutva parties, citing the split in the original Shiv Sena as an example. It also criticized the government’s handling of national security issues, alleging a lack of courage in dealing with critical situations.
