The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) has criticized Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for suggesting the denial of parole to sexual exploitation convicts as a solution to the increasing crime rates. In response to the recent tragic incident in Nasarpur, Pune, where a young girl was assaulted and killed, CM Fadnavis announced a halt on granting parole to those convicted of sexual offenses. However, the Shiv Sena pointed out that such promises often fade away once public attention shifts.
The party’s mouthpiece, ‘Saamana,’ emphasized the delayed enforcement of the Shakti Act, aimed at bolstering women’s safety and imposing stricter penalties on offenders. It stressed the importance of prioritizing this legislation over ongoing debates on women’s reservation. The editorial also highlighted a perceived contradiction between the state’s rhetoric and the actions of the BJP-led Central government.
According to the editorial, there is a discrepancy between the BJP’s claims and its actions, citing instances where individuals convicted of serious crimes were allegedly favored by the party. The editorial questioned the rationale behind allowing controversial figures to join the BJP and occupy significant positions. While CM Fadnavis defends the party’s decisions within the legal framework, critics are questioning the inclusion of such contentious personalities.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena urged the Maharashtra government to align its parole policies with those of the Central government, urging an end to the exploitation of convicted individuals for political purposes.
