Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has accused the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) of being involved in a multi-crore corruption scandal. In a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Raut highlighted irregularities in the procurement of school uniforms, sweaters, socks, raincoats, and school bags for students.
Raut stated that the PCMC bypassed mandatory e-tendering processes and violated Supreme Court guidelines by awarding a multi-crore contract directly to a specific firm without competitive bidding. The contract, which should have gone through an “e-tender” system as per state regulations, was allegedly awarded at an inflated rate, resulting in significant overpayment funded by taxpayers.
Accusing a senior cabinet minister of pressuring the Municipal Commissioner to push through the deal, Raut emphasized the misuse of power for personal gain. He estimated the total scam amount to be around Rs 400 crore and called for immediate action to be taken against the minister and PCMC officials involved in the corruption.
