Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized the government for detaining Ladakhi innovator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act. Chaturvedi called the case against Wangchuk “shameful” and urged the government to listen to his demands for Leh-Ladakh. She highlighted Wangchuk’s dedication to environmental issues and his ongoing struggle even after his release.
Wangchuk, who was released from Jodhpur Central Jail after nearly six months, had been charged under the NSA for advocating statehood and Sixth Schedule safeguards for Ladakh. He emphasized the importance of addressing the causes he represents for Ladakh’s development. Wangchuk’s advocacy for the Sixth Schedule aims to protect tribal rights, culture, and land in the region.
His release has sparked discussions on Leh-Ladakh’s governance, with calls for the government to address pending demands and ensure the voices of the region’s residents are heard. Wangchuk’s activism has brought attention to the need for a comprehensive solution that benefits the region and its people.
