Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut criticized the BJP, alleging internal betrayal within his party during the recent municipal polls in Mumbai. Raut claimed that some individuals within Shiv Sena acted as traitors, aiding the BJP in winning the mayoral seat. Despite this, Raut emphasized that Shiv Sena (UBT) still holds a significant presence in the state legislature.
The BJP-led alliance secured victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, marking the end of the Thackerays’ 25-year control over Mumbai’s civic body. The Mahayuti alliance triumphed in 25 out of 29 civic bodies in Maharashtra. In the BMC, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance won 118 wards, with the BJP victorious in 89 wards and Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde in 29 wards.
The Thackeray cousins, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), faced a setback, winning only 71 wards in the BMC. The elections, which saw 1,700 candidates vying for 227 seats, were held after a prolonged delay. Across Maharashtra, the BJP emerged victorious in 1,425 out of 2,869 wards, while Shiv Sena, under Shinde’s leadership, secured 399 wards.
