Union MoS Labour and Employment and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Shobha Karandlaje, headed the Indian delegation at the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva. During the conference, she engaged in bilateral meetings with counterparts from Nepal, Angola, and Mauritius. In discussions with Nepal’s Minister for Youth, Labour and Employment, both sides focused on areas like skill development and labor mobility.
Nepal acknowledged India’s digital platforms, while India reiterated Nepal’s importance under its “Neighbourhood First” policy. Karandlaje also met with Angola’s Minister of Public Administration, Labour, and Social Security, emphasizing cooperation in various labor-related aspects. Both countries agreed to enhance collaboration in employment services, skilling, and digital governance.
Furthermore, India offered technical support to Angola in developing digital platforms for employment services and skill matching. In a meeting with Mauritius’ Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations, Karandlaje highlighted the strong historical and cultural ties between the two nations. Mauritius appreciated India’s advancements in digital infrastructure for labor and employment and welcomed India’s assistance in this area.
During her visit, Karandlaje also interacted with labor ministers from France, the UK, South Korea, the USA, and Canada. The discussions centered on facilitating the migration of skilled Indian manpower through mutual recognition of skills and demand-driven skilling initiatives.
