The Mumbai Crime Branch’s investigation into the shooting outside director Rohit Shetty’s house has uncovered that the vehicle used in the incident was obtained from Pune. The vehicle, which was used in the shooting, was originally owned by a man from Pune who sold it to one of the arrested suspects, Aditya Gayki, for Rs 30,000 a few days prior.
Aditya Gayki and another suspect, Samarth Pomaji, left the vehicle in Juhu, Mumbai, as prearranged. The individuals who brought the vehicle to Mumbai were unaware of the shooter’s identity. It was later revealed that Shubham Lonkar instructed the shooter to retrieve the vehicle and carry out the shooting. The police noted that a similar pattern is observed in past crimes, where multiple small groups are hired for a crime while ensuring each group remains unaware of the others.
The shooting incident at Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence involved five rounds of bullets fired on a Sunday morning. Surveillance footage captured by IANS displayed three bullet holes on the building. Rohit Shetty’s residence is equipped with two gates and over 10 CCTV cameras. The Crime Branch has deployed multiple teams to review more than 100 nearby CCTV recordings to identify the perpetrators. The authorities are scrutinizing footage from CCTV cameras at Shetty Tower and neighboring structures to trace the attackers’ escape route.
The shooting occurred between 12:30 am and 1:00 am on the night transitioning from Saturday to Sunday. Following the incident, the suspects fled the scene. Upon receiving the report, senior Mumbai Police officials and teams from the Crime Branch promptly responded to the location.
