The renowned playback singer Shreya Ghoshal emphasized the symbiotic relationship between singers and composers, highlighting the importance of singers embracing a composer’s mindset to deliver a song effectively. Ghoshal, a National Award winner, expressed her views while on tour for performances worldwide. She acknowledged the challenge of resisting the urge to delve into composing, noting her involvement in creating some singles with her younger brother.
Ghoshal pointed out that the roles of a singer and a composer are not always distinct paths, as singers often contribute creatively to songs beyond just vocals. She mentioned that while recording, singers continuously explore ways to enhance the song with their creativity and personal touch, sometimes incorporating their compositions and ideas into the process. Ghoshal attributed her limited foray into music composition to time constraints, particularly in the film industry where creative freedom can be restricted.
Despite her inclination towards composing, Ghoshal admitted to holding back due to self-assessment and time limitations. She expressed admiration for legendary singers like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, as well as respected composers, acknowledging their mastery in the field. Ghoshal revealed her aspiration to focus on honing her singing skills while leaving the door open for potential ventures into composing in the future.
