Shreyas Iyer expressed disappointment after Punjab Kings’ 33-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 49th IPL 2026 match. Iyer mentioned that early dropped catches and a slowing wicket contributed to their loss. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s strong performance led to a challenging night for Punjab Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal.
Punjab Kings’ fielding errors at the beginning of the game set a negative tone. Missed opportunities, including dropped catches of Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen, proved costly. Sunrisers Hyderabad aggressively capitalized on these mistakes, with Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head building pressure during the powerplay. Kishan’s quick 55 and Klaasen’s fluent innings pushed Hyderabad past the 200-run mark, making the chase difficult for PBKS.
Despite a promising start to the season, Iyer acknowledged that Punjab Kings need to address issues highlighted by this defeat. The chase for Punjab Kings never gained momentum as SRH’s bowlers struck early, dismissing key players. Marcus Stoinis and Cooper Connolly tried to stabilize the innings, with Connolly impressing Iyer with his composed batting under pressure. Connolly’s unbeaten 107 was remarkable, but insufficient support made the chase nearly impossible.
