Leaders of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti hailed the cancellation of MBBS admissions at the college as a triumph and thanked Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. They mentioned that the agitation, lasting about 45 days, garnered support from various segments of society. The Samiti leaders expressed gratitude to the Central government and appreciated the role of the Jammu media in the movement.
During a press conference, the Samiti leaders shared that the Lieutenant Governor, along with the Union Home Minister and Union Health Minister, played a positive role in the decision to cancel admissions. They clarified that the remarks made during protests were part of the agitation’s intensity and not to be misconstrued. Following the conference, the Samiti members celebrated their perceived success with sweets, dancing, and drumming.
In contrast, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), represented by Waheed Para, criticized the cancellation of admissions. Para expressed disappointment in what he perceived as the BJP government’s divisionary approach, particularly in denying meritorious Muslim students admission based on religious grounds. He emphasized that such actions send negative messages and undermine the future of unity in Jammu and Kashmir and across India.
