Political activities intensified in Maharashtra as nominations closed for the 17 seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from Local Authorities’ constituencies. While the ruling Mahayuti alliance secured five seats uncontested, the remaining 12 will go to polls. Notable withdrawals and last-minute changes marked the final day, with key leaders making strategic moves to consolidate their positions.
In a dramatic turn of events, several MVA candidates withdrew their nominations, citing unfavorable numbers and lack of support from alliance partners. Simultaneously, Mahayuti leaders managed to pacify most internal rebels, ensuring a smoother path for their candidates. The withdrawal window witnessed high-drama moments, including last-minute shifts and strategic maneuvers by various parties.
The unopposed candidates for the five secured seats include Arun Lakhani (BJP), Vikram Kakade (NCP – Ajit Pawar), Ravindra Phatak (Shiv Sena – Eknath Shinde), Aniket Tatkare (NCP – Ajit Pawar), and Dushyant Chaturvedi (Shiv Sena – Eknath Shinde). Notable incidents, such as the withdrawal of candidates accompanied by top leaders and the expulsion of a party member for anti-party activities, added to the day’s political drama.
In different constituencies like Pune, Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, and Nashik, strategic withdrawals and candidate shifts reshaped the electoral landscape. The MVA and Mahayuti alliances engaged in last-minute adjustments to maximize their chances in the upcoming polls. With the stage set for a competitive electoral battle in the remaining constituencies, the political landscape in Maharashtra remains dynamic and fluid.
